Chuck B Jones
Although Chuck was born and raised in Pasadena, California, he spends much of his time in Guatemala. Upon completing his studies in Marketing/ Journalism at California State University of Long Beach, he and his brother Larry began importing and marketing green coffee from their family farm, Finca Dos Marias, and distributing it to specialty roasters throughout the US and Canada.
Chuck has been active in the Specialty Coffee Association of America. He was founding Co-Chair of the Membership Services Committee 1994-98; Chair of the Awards Committee 1998 & 1999; Annual Conference Committee Facilitator 1994-2002; and an Instructor for Sensory Evaluation and Espresso Lab Workshops. In addition to this, Chuck was in the Sustainable Criteria Group II at the First Smithsonian Sustainable Coffee Congress in 1996, and has been a Presenter on panels for Family Businesses and Marketing Guatemalan Coffee. He co-authored a book entitled “Achieving Success in the Specialty Coffee Industry”.
Chuck has worked with the Coffee Quality Institute and Coffee Corps in developing domestic coffee markets for producing countries. He has hosted PBS Frontline in Guatemala investigating the “Coffee Crisis”. He has been a guest on the Larry Mantel radio show discussing coffee on NPR. He has also been quoted other NPR programs like “Market Watch” when the commodity market is volatile.
Today, he is a successful consultant to newly opening retail stores and Barista trainer. He and his Guatemalan partner, Hans Masch, organize and host coffee professionals and consumer groups to Guatemala to explore the culture and production behind the cup of coffee.
